RP Rules
Roleplaying is an interactive experience where you try to create a complex multi media story along with other members of the community. While we try to leave the roleplaying on this site as free form as possible, the following rule is important to ensure that all characters on the site are treated with respect, and if necessary, it will be enforced by moderators.

No character is allowed to impose any major life changes on another character without their express permission received either publicly or through private messages.
This means that you cannot kill another character, maim them, cause them permanent bodily harm, steal from them, alter their body or personality permanently, or affect any change that lasts longer than a few days without their express consent.
You are also not allowed to rape or sexually assault another character in any chat, forum, or private message without prior consent from that character's player.
If you wish to pursue a story that requires another character to be permanently altered, you should contact them ahead of time via private messaging in order to work out the details of the story and ensure that you have their permission.
If during the course of a story you inadvertently cause something permanent to happen to another character without their permission, you should do your best to work with them on a creative means of resolving the issue in as friendly and respectful a manner as possible.

Action Marks
Since roleplaying is an immersive experience, it will often be necessary for you to have your character write out actions that they are invoking in order to further the storyline. This will often be done using actions marks to denote that a physical activity is occurring rather than a verbal message. The following are examples of action marks. These actions marks can consist of any characters that indicate that the following writing is not verbal. The following are several examples of action marks.
::walks into a room::
*waves hello to everyone*
-sits at a table and thinks-
)stares silently at the wall(
=waves to a friend=
You can technically use any characters that you like to indicate action marks; however it helps if they are not characters which are commonly used in speech.
Combat
Conflict often occurs in forums, worlds, and on live chat sessions. When it does it may be resolved by fighting. The most important thing to do when a fight occurs is to respect the one overriding roleplaying rule of the site: you MAY NOT permanently affect another person's character without their direct permission. This means that you cannot simply write
::takes a knife and shoves it in their heart killing them::
A good alternative to that action would be to say
::takes a knife and starts stabbing at the other persons heart::
This gives the other person time to counter the attack. If you have permission you may kill or permanently harm the other character, otherwise you will have to find a way to resolve the conflict in a non-lethal manner.

Character Death
The death of a character on site is a solemn and serious event. The only time it should occur is when a person has planned out and chosen the time and manner of their death, or has agreed to let another do this.
Nobody should be able to kill another character without their consent. If a battle occurs and neither side can decide who should win or lose, another outcome will have to be figured out.
.
Character deaths should not be taken on lightly. If you have your character die, and then you have them resurrect the next day, then the death has no meaning and you detract from the potency of the story. Generally deaths should be permanent. However if you have to have your character resurrect, it should be done in a logical way which furthers the story, rather than detracting from it. You should also wait at least a week before having that character return to the site in living form.

General Rules

hese are the basic rules of this website. Egregious violation of these guidelines will result in your account being permanently banned from the site.

1. Absolutely no OOC attacks. You are not allowed to use hate speech, derogatory terms, name calling, or insults in reference to anybody in an OOC manner.
2. No racist or derogatory terms may be used to describe anyone in an IC or OOC way. You may use racial terms that describe fictional species, but you are not allowed to use any negative terms to refer to any race that actually exists.
3. Absolutely no pedophilia or child pornography may be posted to the site in images, videos, or written content.
4. No videos or images of actual human death or human suffering.
5. No posting of OOC or real life information. You are not allowed to publicly post anything about yourself or others in real life. This includes real names, addresses, or phone numbers. You may post links to your own social network profiles, but posting of links to anyone else's profile without their permission will be severely punished.
6. Do not violate copyright or submit any content that does not belong to you.
7. No Trolling will be permitted. You are allowed to get angry or to incite anger in order to further a storyline, but if you access the site with the explicit intention of hurting other people's feelings, or causing any mental anguish to other members of the site your account will be banned.
8. No Spamming. If you offer a product or website do not spam the site with it. You may mention a personal website if it has direct relation to a storyline taking place, but excessive posting of personal or business related links will result in those links being deleted from the site.
9. No criminal activity. You are not allowed to engage in any activity which goes against either your state or federal laws. You are also not allowed to discuss or plan OOC criminal activities.
10. No images of human nudity. Visual depictions of human nudity are against the Terms of Service of our networks platform provider and are therefore not permitted on this site.
Disruptive Behavior: In addition to these rules, it is important for all members to strive to get along with one another. If a member does not wish to take part in a story happening on one part of the site, the community is big enough that they should be able to find another place to interact. In the case of conflicts, compromises need to be made. However if an Administrator deems that a certain individual is engaging in excessive disruptive behavior, then that individual may be subject to censor.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in warnings, banning, or if the law is violated, legal actions. Additionally, realmsofthecitadel.com reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to remove any content or to restrict, deny, or terminate your access to any part of the site, at any time, for any or no reason with or without prior notice, and without liability. By signing up for an account you also agree to abide by the
Terms of Service
What is Banning?
If your account is banned you will be unable to log into the site, and all of your content will be removed from the website and permanently deleted. All bans are private matters that will be discussed solely between the moderator and the party being banned.

Moderators
A moderator is a member that volunteers their time to ensure that site remains a fun and engaging community experience free from offensive content. Moderators have the sole right to ban any member that they deem to be violating the rules or detracting from the enjoyment of other members of the site. Further, moderators have the ability to remove or permanently delete any post which they find to be in violation of the guidelines set forth above. If content is deleted by a moderator it is not appropriate to repost the same content at a later date.
